The Cromagnon Band

A London trio who draw on cinematic funk, psych-jazz, metal riffs and boom-bap hip hop breaks. The Cromagnon Band describe their approach to music as reverse engineering. Having earned their chops from years producing beats they switched directions and swapped MPCs for instruments.
But what they make isn’t simply instrumental hip hop. Rather, it’s the sound that haunts the dreams of beat diggers and obsessive record collectors alike.
The Brackish
Psychedelic vanguards and misfit maestros of Bristol’s BLOOM music collective, THE BRACKISH are an audacious all-star assembly of guitarists Luke Cawthra (Phantom LimbThe Naim Label) and Neil Smith (This Is The Kit – Rough Trade), drummer Matt Jones (ZunZun Egui – Bella Union) and Port Erin bassist, Jacob Tyghe. Their debut album, 2014’s Big Guys (Lava Thief), righteously filled a kaleidoscopic void in instrumental music and along with 2016’s follow up album, Liquid Of Choice (Bad Elephant Music), the band gained an infamous reputation for their awe-inspiring live shows across the European and UK art rock scene, including the La Ferme Électrique and ArcTanGent festivals.
2025 sees the band release new album ‘Pack it in My Liege ’ via Bristol’s Pig Records. The Brackish sound is characterised by its use of dynamics, long-form composition and improvisation. Face melting heavyness gives way to gentle, spacious soundscapes within a single composition. Kraut-like grooves, polyrhythms, violent melodic statements and psychedelic, freeform improvisation are present in equal measure. Always expressed with a strong emphasis on melody and narrative, aiming to take the listener on journeys of much needed escapism.
